Deezer to add toggle that filters out AI-generated music
Deezer is building a setting that hides AI-generated tracks, albums and related artists from search results, with a launch expected before the end of 2026.
Music streaming service Deezer said on 13 October 2026 that it is developing a new toggle allowing listeners to remove AI-generated music from their experience on the platform. The company expects the feature to become available before the end of the year.
According to Deezer, switching the setting on will hide AI-generated tracks, albums and associated artists from search results. The aim is to let subscribers use the service with only human-made music if they choose.
Chief executive Alexis Lanternier said users had clearly asked for such an option, and that people can now "focus only on human creators and creations, if they wish." He pointed to the rapid growth of AI music on the service as one of the main drivers behind the feature.
AI tracks now dominate daily uploads
Deezer cited a 2025 survey in which roughly 45% of its customers said they wanted a way to strip AI music from their feeds. The company introduced AI-detection tools that same year and has published regular figures on AI uploads since then.
When detection began, AI-generated songs made up about 10% of the tracks uploaded each day. By July 2026, Deezer said that share had passed 50%, averaging around 90,000 tracks daily.
A patchwork of industry responses
Rival services have adopted differing policies. Bandcamp has banned AI tracks outright, while Tidal stopped paying those who upload AI music. Spotify has taken a lighter approach, limiting itself to labelling AI tracks and artists more visibly.
Apple Music was reported in August to be planning AI labels by the end of the year, and some listeners are turning to independent tools to spot synthetic songs. Deezer's toggle goes further than labelling by letting users exclude such content entirely, marking one of the firmest consumer-facing responses yet to the flood of generative audio on streaming platforms.
