Kunlun Tech open-sources Matrix-Game 4.0, an AI game system for one RTX 5090

China's Kunlun Tech has released Matrix-Game 4.0, an open-source system pairing a game engine with real-time AI video rendering on a single consumer GPU.

Chinese technology company Kunlun Tech released Matrix-Game 4.0 on October 15, 2026, an open-source system that merges a conventional game engine with a real-time AI video model. The company says the whole setup can run on one consumer graphics card.

According to Kunlun Tech, Matrix-Game 4.0 produces 480p gameplay at 60 frames per second on an Nvidia RTX 5090, with latency between player input and on-screen response under 150 milliseconds. These figures come from the company and have not yet been independently verified.

Splitting the work between engine and model

The system divides responsibilities into two layers. The game engine keeps track of the world's state, its physics and the rules governing interaction. The video model then takes the engine's plain, low-poly frames and renders them as detailed imagery, leaving visual fidelity to AI while the engine preserves consistency.

A coding agent sits on top of this pipeline. It converts a player's instructions into fresh game rules and into prompts for the video model, which the company says allows gameplay itself to be altered on the fly, not just the look of the scene.

The release bundles model weights, inference code, a demo that runs in a web browser and game assets for shooting and driving scenarios, giving developers what they need to try the system on their own hardware and modify it.

What comes next

The team said it intends to raise output resolution, broaden support for other game genres and explore multiplayer modes in which every player sees a consistent view of the same world. Kunlun Tech runs its AI work under the Skywork AI brand.

AI-generated interactive worlds have drawn growing interest from research labs and game developers, but such systems typically demand substantial compute. A claim of real-time performance on a single consumer card is therefore notable, and the open release should make it easier for outside developers to test whether the system lives up to the company's numbers.
